The Launch of a Novel Biomarker Test Measuring Systemic Chronic Inflammation
VANCOUVER, Wash. — Molecular Testing Labs (MTL) has completed validation of its Systemic Chronic Inflammation Test for quantitative measurement of soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) in human plasma in collaboration with suPAR Bio.
The Science Behind suPAR
An emerging body of research has linked suPAR levels to immune activation and chronic, low-grade inflammation.1 Researchers have proposed suPAR as a biomarker of chronic inflammation because it behaves differently from currently used standards such as CRP. suPAR responds more to sustained immune activation than to transient illness or injury, making it a comparatively stable signal of a person’s baseline inflammatory state.2 Additionally, population studies have examined lifestyle and demographic factors associated with higher suPAR levels, offering insight into how to manage systemic inflammation over time.3
Where MTL’s R&D Capabilities Come In
Validating a novel biomarker test requires assessments of key analytical performance characteristics such as accuracy, reproducibility, limit of detection, and stability to ensure reliable results before the test reaches a single patient. In addition to the analytical validation, MTL completed software and reporting development to support result reporting workflows and interpretation, as well as LIS integration.
The assay was integrated with MTL’s automated ELISA workflow, which will support consistent processing and scalability as test volumes grow. Following launch, the team has entered a structured hypercare phase focused on monitoring quality metrics and turnaround times.
A Partnership Grounded in Innovation
Working with Molecular Testing Labs has been an outstanding experience from start to finish. Their team’s professionalism and expertise are apparent at every stage of the process — from the initial sales conversations, through kickoff, implementation, and go-live.
What truly sets them apart is how well organized they are internally. The implementation process was smooth, seamless, and thorough. Transitions between their different teams were effortless, which made the entire experience feel cohesive rather than fragmented. Their combined expertise and genuine follow-through have made it easy to work with them.
The completion of this validation reflects the scientific depth and operational discipline that MTL brings to every assay we develop or validate. Bringing suPAR testing live required months of collaboration across scientific, quality, operational, and technology teams.
Highlighting Autoinflammatory Awareness Month, we are proud to support access to emerging biomarkers that help advance understanding of immune activation and inflammation while maintaining the rigorous quality standards expected in a CAP-accredited and CLIA-certified laboratory.
